Getting regulated

Pr31:15 She gets up before daylight to prepare food for her family and for her servants – CEV

  1. Nutritional approaches & exercise work – reducing sugar and carbs are a great starting point. See more in this ADHD approaches article  by Julie Matthews http://tinyurl.com/baccexpo27 . Most of the ideas apply to other emotional challenges also.  Even better read about the link between sugar and mental health http://tinyurl.com/baccexpo28

Overcoming anxiety

Ps139:23-24 Investigate my life, O God, find out everything about me; Cross-examine and test me, get a clear picture of what I’m about

  1. Telling an anxious person “not to worry” doesn’t help. Instead, listen, ask them how they feel, and help them plan for success. And  deeper conversations need to be 1:1, not 2:1 or 3:1 because that just further raises their anxiety and provide overstimulation. For many more example see the Book:  Raising An Emotionally Intelligent Child The Heart of Parenting
  2. A great workbook for a school age child is “What to Do When You Worry Too Much: A Kid’s Guide to Overcoming Anxiety”… this workbook is full of pictures and exercises that help reframe anxious situations and help the child build a plan for success in any situation. Highly recommended!

  2. Almost half the kids in any given school would benefit from accommodations – like seating near the front, more visuals,  etc. And the best way to get accommodations for your child is to ask, and ask, and ask.
